How to make your business a success
You’ve had the lightning bolt, you’ve had the IDEA, and now what? All businesses start with an idea, and it is what you do with that idea that determines whether the business will be a success. I’d like to place a bet that 99% of humans have had at least one great idea in their lifetime. So why is it only around 1% manage to turn that idea in to a tangible success? Well it takes some EFFORT, followed closely by some courage AND determination, as well as organization and BELIEF.
These are things that we are all capable of achieving if we want something enough, and once you have the right state of mind in place you are halfway there. People that have the courage to start their own business should be commended for their bravery, because by far the majority of people are prepared to blindly follow and take the easy path through life. Starting a business means breaking away from the crowd, and putting yourself out there in the line of fire. And believe me there are people waiting to take a shoot you down.
So you have the idea, and have steeled yourself for the ride ahead, so what comes next? IMAGE. Yes, image is hugely important to us humans. You need to portray the right image for the business you are in. Portray the wrong image and you are doomed from the start. Humans are creatures of habit, and we are conditioned to expect certain things. For example there is a reason why the news is delivered to us in the unnatural, almost mechanical way in which news readers speak to us. The news reader doesn’t speak like that in everyday life, no one does. But we are conditioned to expect that, and if it was delivered in any other way it wouldn’t seem right to us, and we would soon lose credibility in any particular news service that tried a different approach to the one in which we are conditioned.
It is the same for business. You need to research what people expect from your particular business. And don’t give them something that they aren’t conditioned for, because you will soon see a loss in credibility, trust, sales and ultimately your MONEY.
Professionalism. If you are to persuade people to pay for your particular product or service then you need to convince them that it will be money well spent. You need to present your image as professional and responsible. This includes your company logo, your business cards, letterheads, company literature, your vehicles, your clothes and the whole package in the way you present yourself and your company. If it looks as though you’ve cut corners on your own promotion, why should your customers not expect you to cut corners on your service? Again it comes down to the image you represent for your business, and never underestimate the power of image and impressions on the human mind.
